Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore Honors Local Leader, John Allen, Jr. While Golfing for Kids’ Sake

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, Inc. (BBBSES) held its 11th Annual Eastern Shore Golf Classic honoring John Allen, Jr. on August 17th at the beautiful River Marsh Golf Club at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina. Golfers gathered to celebrate the retirement of community leader, John Allen, Jr. from Delmarva Power. Major sponsors for the tournament included Presenting Sponsor- Delmarva Power, Hole in One Sponsor- Pohanka of Salisbury, and Bronze Sponsors- AUI Power and Real HVAC Services. Co-chairs for the event were John Petito of Delmarva Power and Jimmy Sweet of the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Fifty-nine golfers teed off on a gorgeous Monday afternoon, participating in a variety of special activities, while also maintaining social distancing, and health and safety standards. Upon registration, each golfer received a gift card to the Hyatt Resort and hand sanitizer gift pack as a thank you for their contribution to the charity tournament. Golfers played a superb 18 holes of golf and enjoyed a delicious, boxed lunch.

Immediately following the tournament, awards were presented for closest to the pin, first and second place gross, and first and second place net. The winners were: #6 -Tom Robinson, #13- Gary Cripps, #15-Steve Rose , and #17 -Jamila Johnson for Closest to the Pin; Alex Baily, Malone Harmon, Tim Cropper, Bill Allen for 1st Place Gross; Jimmy Sweet, Brian Patey, David Bledsoe, Bobby Gordy for 2nd Place Gross; Andy Hartstein, Steve Rose, Penny Short, Tom Brown for 1st Place Net; and Jamila Johnson, Brian Hollamon, Ben Kirk, Linwood Harmon for 2nd  Place Net.

Mr. Allen established the Eastern Shore Golf Classic 11 years ago to benefit those facing adversity in Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The event has been one of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore’s largest fundraisers year after year. This year, golfers were excited to celebrate the long-lasting community impact Mr. Allen has maintained through his work as a committed community ambassador and spokesperson for government offices, community leaders, and non-profit groups throughout the Eastern Shore.

As summer comes to a close, BBBSES is excited to announce its next big event, Santa’s Open Charity Golf Tournament, is scheduled for December 5, 2020. Details can be found at www.shorebiglittle.org/events.
