Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore Recognizes those Making a Big Impact

Eastern Shore – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, Inc (BBBSES) held its annual Big Celebration on Tuesday August 20th at the Delmarva Shorebirds Stadium in the Executive Suite. The Big Celebration is an annual affair that celebrates the hard working, committed volunteers, families, and supporters of the Agency. Chesapeake Insurance Company, and the Delmarva Shorebirds sponsored the Big Celebration. Everyone enjoyed watching the Delmarva Shorebirds take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore’s Executive Director, Jessica Mimms, was excited to present this year’s Eastern Shore Big Brother of the Year to Patrick Cupp of Caroline County and the Big Sister of the Year Award to Sharon Fincher of Wicomico County. These prestigious awards recognizes excellence and selflessness in mentoring. Both of these Bigs have been matched with their mentees for over two years and have both shown dedication to their mentee (Little).

This year’s Partner of the Year Award was presented to Island Creamery. The award recognizes one entity’s outstanding contributions to the Agency. Island Creamery has provided an in-kind donation of free ice cream to our newly made mentoring matches to help their relationships get off to a sweet start.

A new award this year, called the Defender of Potential Award, recognizes an individual or entity who promotes and bolsters potential in Eastern Shore youth. Edit Downtown Salon in Salisbury, after hosting numerous Princess Day events for girls facing adversity in our program and beyond was recognized for their caring and compassionate contributions.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore’s Board Member of the Year was presented to Sally Rankin. BBBSES recognized Rankin for her outstanding amount of volunteer hours to the agency. Her professionalism and support have helped the agency grow tremendously in the past year.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore’s mission, updated in 2019, is to create and support mentoring relationships that ignite the power and potential of youth.

BBBSES is a local affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which ensures that these children achieve measurable outcomes, including educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors, higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships. This mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America has been the cornerstone of the organization’s 113-year history. With over 300 affiliates across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America has served more than 2 million children (“Littles”) in the past 10 years.
