Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake is pleased to announce that it has been selected as an official partner of Payless Gives™ Shoes 4 Kids, an annual giving program from Payless ShoeSource. The organization was selected as a participant out of more than 700 applications from nonprofits across the United States.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake helps children and youth reach their fullest potential through professionally supported mentoring relationships and a broad range of services with quality standards and measurable impact. Students in the service areas of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake were selected as recipients of the free shoes based on the condition and appropriateness of their current shoes, as well as whether or not a lack of proper shoes has impacted their school attendance.
“Thanks to Payless ShoeSource, we are able to enhance the service we provide and the impact we have on Eastern Shore youth and their families,” said Jessica Mimms, Eastern Shore Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake.
The Payless Gives™ Shoes 4 Kids program is in its seventh year and although studies show that properly fitting shoes are important for children’s health and development, a striking number of children don’t own a pair of shoes that fit. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake is working to remedy that here in Maryland. The donations provided by Payless Gives™ allowed for local Big Brothers Big Sisters participants to shop for new shoes.
By helping families who struggle to provide their children with basic essentials on a daily basis, Big Brother Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake, in partnering with the Payless Gives™ Shoes 4 Kids program, hopes to relieve some of the stress parents feel and bring joy to as many children as possible. This partnership provided shoes to youth in Wicomico, Worcester, Talbot and Caroline Counties.
