Salisbury, MD – The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce joined by Chamber members, community leaders, elected officials, and local dignitaries, proudly joined Imad Abu, owner of Cactus Taverna, as he celebrated the remarkable milestone of the restaurant’s 30th anniversary with a ribbon cutting event on September 15.
For three decades, Cactus Taverna has been one of Salisbury’s most beloved dining destinations, known for its warm hospitality, diverse menu, and exceptional Mediterranean cuisine. Since opening its doors in 1996, the restaurant has become a gathering place for families, friends, and visitors seeking not only outstanding food but also a memorable dining experience.
Under the leadership of owner Imad Abu, Cactus Taverna has cultivated a reputation for creating lasting memories through thoughtful traditions and personal touches. Guests enjoy live music on Wednesdays and Saturdays, a signature digestive offered at the conclusion of each meal, and Abu’s well-known practice of personally greeting diners at their tables. A charismatic and attentive host, Abu often circulates throughout the dining room offering wine from a traditional wine bota, creating a lively and authentic Mediterranean experience that has become a hallmark of the restaurant.
Reflecting on the milestone, Abu expressed his gratitude to the community that has supported the restaurant throughout its journey.
“It’s been a great journey. What really kept us in the Salisbury area was the incredible support of the community from the day we opened,” said Abu. “Like most businesses, that first year was hard, but then things started going well. We truly appreciate everyone who came out today to celebrate with us. It’s been a beautiful journey. I also owe a great deal to the staff, both past and present, who helped build our clientele and establish our name over the years. We appreciate everybody’s support for the past 30 years, and we’re looking forward to not just the next 30 years, but the next 50 years!”
During the anniversary celebration, Abu’s longstanding contributions to the local restaurant industry and the broader community were recognized through a series of citations and proclamations presented by federal, state, and local representatives. Honors included:
  • Citation from U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, presented by Alyssa Hastings
  • Citation from Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr., presented by Mindie Bourgoyne
  • Citation from the Maryland House of Delegates, presented by Delegate Barry Beauchamp
  • Recognition from the Maryland Senate, presented by Senator Mary Beth Carozza
  • Recognition from the Wicomico County Council, presented by John Cannon
Guests enjoyed a selection of light fare featuring several of the restaurant’s most popular menu items, showcasing the quality, flavor, and authenticity that have defined Cactus Taverna’s success for the past three decades. The celebration also included door prize drawings, with three fortunate attendees receiving gift cards to the restaurant.
As Cactus Taverna begins its fourth decade in business, the Salisbury community looks forward to many more years of exceptional Mediterranean cuisine, outstanding hospitality, and continued contributions to the region’s economic vitality and quality of life.
