As summer rolls in, many children enjoy camps and outdoor recreational activities, but for those with disabilities, finding a unique program and the funding that caters to their needs can be a challenge. Recently, a grant by The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore through the David Larmore Memorial Fund assisted sending campers to Camp Fairlee, which caters to accessible camping and recreation for those with disabilities.
Located in Chestertown, Maryland, Camp Fairlee is a beautiful residential/recreational and respite camp on 250 sprawling acres, which offers campers from age 6 and up the opportunity to experience the joys and challenges of camp in a fully-accessible setting. Easter Seals addresses the need for accessible camping with its location near Chestertown, Maryland. The camo, which is run by The Easter Seals, recently received a $6.5 million rebuild, including all new cabins, an updated health center, activity center and dining hall.
The David Larmore Memorial fund was established by Sheldon and Sara Larmore in honor of their son David who suffered from Spina Bifida. The fund financially assists local nonprofits that provide programs for individuals with disabilities and their families.
