MAC, Inc., is reaching out to seniors during the COVID-19 crisis, through the new Care Watch program. Care Watch can help Lower Shore seniors who:
- Live alone and are feeling isolated, lonely or depressed
- Are worried about getting food or medications
- Need some type of assistance to help them continue living safely and independently at home
- Are experiencing memory loss or confusion
In this time of social distancing, staying connected has never been more important. Older adults in particular are at a higher risk of isolation, loneliness and increased frail health. For those seniors living alone confusion, fear and depression can lead to even higher health and fall risks.
The Care Watch program will work through MAC’s Maryland Access Point (MAP) and Life Bridges staff members to connect area seniors to the services they need, or to a friendly voice to help them cope with the loneliness and isolation caused by the COVID-19 crisis. Life Bridges is the Alzheimer’s and dementia program offered at MAC. Care Watch is a free service.
Seniors in need of assistance may call MAC at 410-742-0505, Monday through Thursday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and ask for Care Watch. In addition to MAP and Life Bridges services, volunteers will be available just to “chat” with seniors who are lonely.
MAC is a member agency of the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore.
Please note: The MAC building remains closed to the public, with a conditional reopening to occur with the termination of Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan’s stay-at-home order. Staff will be available to respond to inquiries from the community and to offer assistance to the senior community, both VIA TELEPHONE ONLY. Call 410-742-0505.
MAC’s home-delivered meals operation will continue as normal.
As throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, MAC’s first priority remains the health and safety of staff, volunteers, and the senior community.
MAC Incorporated, the Area Agency on Aging, is a private, nonprofit organization serving senior citizens in Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties. MAC’s mission is to provide programs and services which promote dignity, health and independence for an aging population.
