Episode #6 of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce – Education Committee Network’s PAC-14 TV Show “EDUCATION IS EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS” features the critical educational topic Eastern Shore Teachers – We Support You”  This episode highlights the importance of recruiting and retaining our teachers whither it’s staffing our childcare centers, our public and private PreK to 12th Grade schools or our community college and university campuses. Staffing shortages, low teacher pay, and student mental health are major problems in our region and across the nation.

This episode features the financial support that the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES) provides through its Education Grants Program. Ms. Erica Joseph, President, and Ms. Lauren Ansted, Program Officer, provide an informative overview of this program and how it currently impacts teacher innovation in the classroom. Ms. Ansted serves as a Co-host for this episode, interviewing three (3) CFES Grant Recipients here on the Lower Eastern Shore. Featured are Mr. Jerry Kelley, Parkside High School, Wicomico County Public Schools; Ms. Laura Arenella, Buckingham Elementary School, Worcester County Public Schools; and Ms. Stephanie Krisulevicz, The Salisbury School. All three recipients describe how the CFES Grant funds have and are positively impacting student learning.

This episode completes the Chamber’s Inaugural Year of producing a TV Show that continues to be a source of community awareness and knowledge of topics that impact Education and Workforce Development here on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore.

This year’s exciting and informative SACC-EN Regional Community Forum is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center. The General Public (parents, students, community leaders, business owners, and interested citizens) is asked to make plans now to come out, listen and learn at this FREE informative event.

Wicomico County Public Schools: For anyone interested in enrolling their children into various summer enrichment programs offered by numerous agencies throughout the county, please go to the Wicomico County Public Schools Homepage – www.wcboe.org. Wicomico Public Libraries: This summer, the Wicomico Public Libraries are offering Summer Reading Programs for All Ages from June 1 – July 31, 2023. Go their website – www.wicomicolibraries.org – for more information.

Wor-Wic Community College: An information session about Wor-Wic Community College’s phlebotomy technician training will be held on Tuesday, July 25. Attendees can learn the requirements and expectations of the training, as well as about financial aid. Wor-Wic Community College is currently accepting registrations for credit classes that are being offered this fall. Early registration is encouraged for the best selection of classes.
