Chesapeake Health Care is holding its 9th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to raise funds for the Summer Therapeutic Program for Childre
SALISBURY, MD – Chesapeake Health Care has scheduled its 9th annual golf tournament for Friday, August 5th at the Ocean City Golf Club. Funds raised at this year’s event will support the Summer Therapeutic Program serving at-risk children living in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties.
About the Summer Therapeutic Program
Each summer, Chesapeake Health Care holds a 10-week program that offers innovative therapy and adventure for at-risk youth ages 6-18 years old. The program is staffed by Chesapeake Health Care’s licensed therapeutic experts and clinical support staff who truly care about the safety and well-being of the children. By combining recreational activities, therapeutic sessions, and group treatment, the program helps underprivileged children develop healthy relationships, and improve emotional, behavioral, and social functioning.
“Our therapists, nurse practitioners and psychiatrists witness the emotional, physical, sexual, and drug abuses that assault the children in our communities every day,” said Brian Holland, CEO of Chesapeake Health Care. “Through individual, family and group treatment modalities, our children build fortitude through resilience, and learn the skills and coping mechanisms to overcome this adversity.”
This year, Chesapeake Health Care has secured space at the Crown Sports Center where they will offer the children a variety of sports and entertainment activities in addition to the therapeutic sessions. Because CHC provides transportation, breakfast, and lunch for the children, as well as staffing at a ratio of 1 therapist for every 6 children, the cost for this summer program can well exceed $3,000 per child. Despite this cost, most of the families pay little to no registration fee to attend.
“Since the need is so great in our community, we would like to expand the program to at least 170 children,” said Crystal Lambert, LCSW-C, who is the head of the Mental Health Department at Chesapeake Health Care.
With funds raised from its golf tournament, CHC aims to expand the summer program so that more children can get the help needed to become healthy, functioning members in our communities.
Golf Tournament Details
The golf tournament will be a scramble that will kick off with registration and breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The afternoon will culminate in a luncheon and awards ceremony. Golfers will enjoy a day of networking, food and on-course drinks, and exciting raffles and prizes.
