Salisbury, Maryland — Severe thunderstorms rolled in and out quickly. The damage left behind could be seen and felt across the city. Inside 24 hours, Salisbury Fire and EMS received 125 calls for service. Only 5 calls were handled by outside agencies.

Salisbury Fire Chief, Rob Frampton championed those efforts saying, “That’s some sort of record for sure! Our people do amazing work!! All across the City, quite a team!!!

The City of Salisbury Field Operations team prepared ahead of time for the storm. Crews were active and deployed immediately. Teams worked through the night to clean up downed power lines, brush, and branches. Power was completely restored by daybreak. All cleanup to streets, parks, and other public property was also finished by the following morning.

A few homes had damage in different areas of the City. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the storm. Nor was there any damage to City equipment or stations.

The City also wants to recognize the unsung heroes of the zoo staff who came in early morning to clear trees and pick-up debris so the Zoo could be safe to open on Saturday.

Mayor Randy Taylor along with City emergency response leaders are proud of the efforts of our employees and the strength and steadfastness of our residents during the storm.

“We know these storms can be taxing,” Taylor said. “In that effort, we’re happy to support residents by providing a bulk pickup. Please assist us by making the piles manageable. Thank you for your cooperation.”

In light of the Memorial Day holiday, pick-up of storm related yard debris has been moved to Tuesday, May 27. To request this special bulk debris removal at your address, please fill out the Yard Waste Collection Form. All forms must be received by noon Thursday, May 22.

As defined by City code 8.16.010 tree and shrubbery limbs must be securely bundled in lengths not to exceed four feet, and no individual branch may exceed four inches in diameter. Bundles may not weigh more than forty (40) pounds.
