Salisbury – City Administrator Julia Glanz announced today a new text message alert system to deliver important and timely information directly to citizens. The system, which will go live on March 1, 2021, is free to all who wish to participate. Citizens may sign up beginning Friday, December 11, 2020.
“We are constantly reevaluating how we deliver information to our citizens,” said City Administrator Glanz. “We want to make sure that we’re reaching as many people as possible, and filling in those gaps that exist between social media and conventional media. This text message alert system gives us the ability to provide up-to-the-second updates on a range of topics related to public safety, health, and infrastructure.”
SMS text alerts from the City of Salisbury will be focused on, but not necessarily limited to, the following topics:
- Severe weather alerts and response
- Emergency alerts and response
- Construction/Road Closures
- Event Updates
- COVID-19 Information
- Sanitation Notices – specifically delays and rescheduled pickup dates
Participants can choose to receive all citywide text alerts, or only those dealing with Downtown-related information.
