SALISBURY, Maryland – In the wake of the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Helene, which struck North Carolina and Tennessee in late September, numerous fire departments in the affected regions are struggling with depleted resources and unable to respond effectively to emergencies. Today, the City of Salisbury and the Salisbury Fire Department (SFD) announce their commitment to support fellow first responders in need by donating essential emergency equipment.
After hearing from the Southside Volunteer Fire Department in Erwin, Tennessee, which reported a significant loss of equipment due to the hurricane, the City of Salisbury identified surplus items within its own inventory to aid in the recovery effort. Among the donated items are two Hurst Combination Extrication tools complete with hoses and pumps — critical tools used by emergency crews to lift heavy objects and cut open vehicles, potentially saving lives during accidents.
These extrication tools will be transported to Tennessee along with additional apparatus and equipment donated by other local fire departments, demonstrating the fire service’s enduring spirit of solidarity and support in times of crisis. The City of Salisbury and the SFD take pride in extending a hand to a community in need, recognizing the family-oriented nature of fire service that transcends state lines.
“We are grateful to be in a position to assist our friends in Tennessee who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene,” said Rob Frampton, Chief of the Salisbury Fire Department. “At times like these, it is more important than ever to come together as one community and support each other.”
