Salisbury, MD — As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the health and sustainability of local waterways, the City of Salisbury has partnered with several regional organizations to tackle litter and debris affecting the Wicomico River. In a collaborative effort with the Salisbury Litter Committee, Shore Progress, the Wicomico County Litter Initiative “Wicomico Clean,” and engaged community members, the City has made measurable strides toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Most recently, the City’s Field Operations Department installed a debris-catching net at a key outfall location on the Wicomico River. The net, located along the footbridge off of the Riverwalk, is designed to trap trash and litter that would otherwise enter the river through storm drains—preventing harmful debris from polluting one of Salisbury’s most cherished natural resources.

“This will not be the last step in taking control of trash in the storm drains running into the river,” said Mayor Randy Taylor. “This installation marks a meaningful start, but we are committed to continued action and innovation as we work to protect our environment and preserve the beauty of our waterways for future generations.”

This latest initiative builds on months of collaborative work aimed at fostering environmental stewardship throughout the Salisbury area. By uniting City departments, community groups, and county-wide programs, Salisbury continues to lead by example in its approach to environmental responsibility.

The City encourages residents to stay involved by participating in upcoming clean-up events, educational workshops, and sustainability campaigns. Together, we can ensure that the Wicomico River remains a vital and thriving part of our community.
