SALISBURY, MD – Mayor Jake Day announced this morning that the City of Salisbury will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks with 2 memorial ceremonies, both on Saturday, September 11th. Citizens are welcome and encouraged to attend either or both ceremonies.
On Saturday morning, beginning at 9:00 a.m., the Salisbury Fire Department will gather in solemn remembrance of the brave first responders who sacrificed their lives in service to their fellow Americans on that day. The ceremony, which is held every year on the anniversary of the attacks, is punctuated by the symbolic ringing of a bell to indicate the moments of impact and collapse of the World Trade Center towers, the impact at the Pentagon, and the crash of United Airlines flight 93. This memorial ceremony will take place on the tarmac outside of Salisbury Fire Headquarters on Fitzwater Street. Attendees are asked to be prompt, so as not to interrupt the proceedings.
At 4:00 p.m., preceding the performance of the United States Army Blues Band at the National Folk Festival, Mayor Jake Day and others will pay tribute to those lost on 9/11, and celebrate the indomitability of the American spirit. This ceremony will take place at the Tidal Health Stage, located between Carroll Street and Times Square, downtown.
