The SACC March General Membership Luncheon was held on Thursday, March 17, 2022, on the beautiful campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

University President Dr. Heidi Anderson kicked off the luncheon and welcomed the sixty attendees to the campus. She then welcomed keynote speaker Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot.

Comptroller Franchot began with the much-welcomed news that Governor Hogan was set to sign into law a thirty-day exemption of the Maryland state gasoline tax. This resulted in a savings of thirty-six cents per gallon, and the news was met by applause from the audience.

The Comptroller spoke of Maryland’s nearly $6 billion budget surplus and the need to further aid struggling small businesses across the state.  “Small business is the backbone of Maryland’s economy, and we need to do everything we can to put business owners in a position to succeed in these uncertain economic times.”

Franchot announced that Maryland’s tax filing deadline has been extended to July 15 and stated that his office will remain focused on delivering respectful, responsive, and results-oriented taxpayer services. He added, “I am proud that our office is considered one of the most effective and efficient in the nation.”

The Comptroller closed by wishing everyone good health and hoped we would see inflation level off in the coming months.

The April 14, 2022, General Membership Luncheon will take place at Green Hill Country Club and will feature a Maryland State Comptroller Candidate Forum.

The candidates for Maryland State Comptroller have been invited to attend a Q&A session where they will address a series of questions from a panel representing The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Salisbury Committee, and PACE at Salisbury University.

Advance registration is required. Tickets are $25 for members and $35 for non-members and can be purchased at www.salisburyarea.com.
