The Wicomico County Council on September 18, 2020 approved the continuation of John D. Psota as Acting County Executive. Under the Wicomico County Charter, he has held that position since the death of then County Executive Bob Culver in July.

Council President Larry Dodd said “after Council requested and received applications to the fill the vacancy in the Office of County Executive and conducted interviews of certain applicants, the Council is unable to reach a majority consensus to fill the vacancy, so the Council decided that it would be in the best interest of the County for Mr. Psota to continue to fill the vacancy pursuant to the Charter.”

As Acting County Executive Mr. Psota has the same rights, duties, powers and obligations as an elected County Executive. He will continue to serve in that capacity until the vacancy in the Office of the County Executive is filled by election in accordance with the County Charter and state law or, if earlier, the vacancy is filled in accordance with the Charter.

Council President Dodd feels that the County is fortunate to have someone with Mr. Psota’s experience in charge of the Executive Branch of the County Government. Following his career with the Maryland State Police, he served as Fruitland’s City Manager for some years. Mr. Psota has a degree in political science from Salisbury University.
