Crisfield, MD — On Thursday, September 11, at 5:00 p.m., the public is invited to attend a community workshop at the Corbin Gallery (4 E Main St, Crisfield, MD) to view the final results of the EPA Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Planning Project. This event will highlight the top five priority nature-based projects selected for Crisfield and the analysis supporting their selection.
Over the past year, the City of Crisfield, in partnership with local stakeholders, has worked to identify Nature-Based Solutions designed to reduce flooding and erosion, enhance community resilience, and provide co-benefits such as improved water quality, recreational opportunities, and habitat protection.
Researchers from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Tetra Tech have recently completed their work on developing strategies to improve coastal resilience in the region. Their research focused on evaluating the effectiveness of natural infrastructure—such as wetlands, tidal marshes, and seagrasses—in reducing wave height and protecting infrastructure during storm events.
The planning process included both scientific modeling and extensive community input to determine which projects would best serve the Crisfield area.
All are welcome to attend the workshop, ask questions, and provide feedback on the proposed solutions. Researchers will present their findings and answer questions during the event.
