Crisfield Receives Grant Award for 500 Laptops from the Office of Statewide Broadband

Crisfield has been awarded a Connected Devices grant through the Office of Statewide Broadband, in partnership with the Somerset County Library. This program will distribute 500 laptops to eligible households that provide qualifying documentation, listed below. The laptops will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis starting in coordination with the Crisfield Library Summer Reading kickoff on June 17 from 1 – 3 pm at the Crisfield Library, 100 Collins Street. Following that event, laptop distribution will be available each week Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm while supplies remain. The library is closed on Sunday.

The Town of Princess Anne is also a recipient of the Connected Devices grant and will be distributing laptops through Town Hall. Applicants must reside within the town limits of Princess Anne. Proof of participation in the following programs will be required to receive a laptop. One laptop will be available per household. Any sensitive information, including social security numbers, will not be retained in the grant documentation.

To register a household for a laptop in Crisfield, individuals should bring proof of participation in one of the programs listed below to the library. Qualifying documents include household’s participation in certain government assistance programs such as:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Medicaid
  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
  • Received a Federal Pell Grant in the current award year
  • Household enrolled in the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a U.S. government program run by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to help low-income households pay for internet service. To check your qualifications to enroll in the Affordable Connectivity Program and be automatically eligible for a laptop for your household, please register at affordableconnectivity.gov.
