David Smith Receives Promotion for Naval Sea Systems Command

Salisbury MD — 24 October 2019The Salisbury Jaycees Foundation is proud to share the promotion  of their Board Member and Vice President Mr. David Smith.

Mr. David Smith was recently promoted to be the Chief Test Lead for Aegis and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Test & Evaluation for the Naval Sea Systems Command, Dahlgren Division.   With over 31 years of combined military, industry, and Federal civil service, David began his new position on September 30 2019.  As the Chief Test Lead he will be responsible leading a large team responsible for the Combat Systems Test and Evaluation supporting over 80 Aegis Cruisers and Destroyers.

An Operations Specialist in the U.S. Navy for 10 years, David was actively involved in numerous test initiatives at the Aegis Combat System Center, Wallops Island.  During his time in industry, David successfully executed various roles including training curriculum development for the Advanced Joint Interoperability Course, Test Director for the Navy Distributed Engineering Plant, and Y2K Readiness Test Director for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Headquartered out of Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, VA he has held significant leadership positions in Combat Systems Certification, Littoral Combat Ship & Aegis Test & Evaluation.  He will be home based from Wallops Island, VA, and supporting efforts at Wallops Island and Dahlgren, VA.

David has been recognized for his contributions with the US House of Representatives Achievement Award, the Integrated Combat Systems Reuben Pitts Lead Dog Award, Pathfinder Award, and the Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Systems Excellence Award.

David is a Past President of the Salisbury, MD Jaycees and the MD Junior Chamber.   He currently serves as Vice President of Salisbury Jaycees Foundation.   He also is a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, VFW Post 194 and Salisbury Elks Lodge 817.   He lives in Salisbury, MD with his wife Melanie Brewton Smith.
