Davis, Bowen, and Friedel 9/11 Memorial

September 11th Ceremony, Dover AFB

Davis, Bowen, and Friedel, Inc., recently helped dedicate the 9/11 Memorial at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware. Mike Wheedleton, Principal and Senior Architect with the firm assisted the Eagle Firefighters Association to initiate the project. The project, which honors the men and women who lost their lives during the 2001 disaster, included schematic design options and contacts for area contractors who may be interested in volunteering construction services. The memorial design included steel from the World Trade Centers, a rock from the crash site of Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA, and portion of concrete from the damaged Pentagon building. This memorial makes Delaware the final state to complete a public 9/11 memorial.

The dedication ceremony was attended by various state and local dignitaries including Governor Jack Markell who spoke to the efforts of the volunteers and his recollections of that tragic day.

Mr. Wheedleton and his team at Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc., were recognized for the early volunteer hours committed to the project and providing the Fire Company with a design which was used over a several year period to assist with fundraising and construction firm commitments.

Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc., is a full-service architectural/engineering firm with offices in Salisbury and Easton, Maryland and Milford, Delaware.  The Milford office in particular, has a longstanding relationship, which it holds in high regard, with the Construction and Engineering staff at Dover Air Force Base.
