Delmarva Power this evening awarded $10,000 to teachers from 19 schools in Maryland and Delaware to spend on energy- and environmental-related lessons.

Grants of up to $500 were given to support projects that enhance students’ education about such topics as energy conservation, renewable energy and environmental awareness. The money will be used to buy materials, conduct special lessons and implement projects that usually are not supported by school funding.

“We want to recognize these teachers for coming up with creative projects that will hopefully spur their students’ interest in learning more about energy and its connection to our environment,” said John Allen, Delmarva Power Region Vice President. “Many teachers and students have benefitted from our mini-grant awards over the last several years and once again we are pleased to be able to continue our monetary support for worthwhile educational activities.”

Teachers in Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware and 10 counties in Maryland were eligible to apply for the grants. Delmarva Power has awarded more than $237,000 in grant money to area schools for energy- and environmental-related projects over the last 24 years.
