The Del‑Mar‑Va Council, Scouting America, will host a Community Flag Retirement Event on Flag Day, June 14, at Akridge Scout Reservation (1910 Baden Powell Way) in Dover, Delaware. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Community members are invited to bring worn, faded, or unserviceable American flags to be respectfully retired in accordance with the traditions of Scouting America. Local Scout Units are encouraged to collect flags in advance and to help share this opportunity with families, neighbors, civic groups, and area organizations.
Flag retirement is a time‑honored practice that reflects respect for the nation’s symbol and reinforces the values of citizenship and service. By gathering on Flag Day, the Del‑Mar‑Va Council aims to provide the community with a meaningful way to honor the American flag while engaging youth and families in an important act of civic responsibility.
If you are unable to attend on Flag Day, flags to be retired may be dropped off at the administration building at Akridge Scout Reservation weekdays from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
