The County of Wicomico is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) under the Federal Aviation Administration’s FY25 Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program. This funding, made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s expanded eligibility provisions, underscores the federal commitment to advancing critical infrastructure in our region.
The grant, totaling $126,825, will fund Phase 1: Design for the replacement of equipment in the Sponsor-owned federal contract tower at Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport (SBY). This initiative is a pivotal step toward ensuring state-of-the-art safety and operational efficiency for the region’s primary air travel hub.
“This funding is a testament to the federal government’s dedication to modernizing local infrastructure,” said Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano. “With the support our Congressional representatives, projects like this enhance the economic vitality and safety of our region.”
“Salisbury Regional Airport supports the Eastern Shore’s economy, serving as a hub for local business and tourism, which is why we have fought to secure key federal investments in its growth and success over the years. This latest investment will help ensure the airport can maintain its high standard of air traffic safety and continue serving regional travelers and businesses efficiently,” said Senator Chris Van Hollen.
Senator Alsobrooks added that, “The Salisbury Regional Airport is critical infrastructure and a transit hub that strengthens the Eastern Shore’s economy. This is necessary federal investment that represents a continued commitment to Eastern Shore. I will be a staunch advocate for the region alongside my colleagues in our federal delegation.”
The grant’s impact spans Congressional District 1, further strengthening transportation resources for Salisbury and surrounding communities. The Federal Aviation Administration remains the lead agency disbursing these funds, with Daniel G. Neumann serving as the primary contact for project oversight and implementation.
