DILA Scheduled American Sign Language (ASL) Classes for Fall 2020

dila

For anyone who wants to learn or further their knowledge of American Sign Language.  Classes are taught by a deaf instructor.

ASL Level 1 students will learn about Deaf Culture and how to carry on an everyday conversation with deaf individuals. Role playing and games designed to teach basic signs are used as tools. By the end of class, a sampling of the skills you will learn are: Manual Alphabet, numbers, introducing yourself and exchanging personal information. We strongly encourage students that pass level 1 to continue to learn by taking a future level class 2 which will build on what was learned in level 1. Like any other language, Level 1 only covers the basics and there is much more to learn to be able to communicate effectively in ASL. ASL Level 1 Classes will be held September 15 – October 8, 2020 every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm. Cost of class is $225 which includes textbook. If you already have the textbook cost is $150. Registration deadline is September 8, 2020 for ASL Level 1.Online registration link: https://dila.org/event/fall-asl-level-1-classes/…

In ASL Level 2 students will continue to learn about Deaf Culture plus build on what was learned in ASL Level 1 which includes talking about family, discussing home and office plus much more. Role playing and games designed to teach basic signs are continued to be used as tools. We encourage students that passed a Level 1 class to continue to learn by taking the Level 2 class as the first level just covers the basics and there is much, much more to learn like any other language. ASL Level 2 Classes will be held October 20 – November 19, 2020 every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm. Cost is $150. If you need the textbook cost is $225. Must have passed ASL 1 or have person from the instructor to register for ASL 2. Registration deadline is October 13, 2020 for ASL Level 2.
