Dr. Bashir Hamidu joins TidalHealth Gastroenterology in Salisbury

Salisbury, MD — Rukaiya Bashir Hamidu, MD, is a gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist at TidalHealth Gastroenterology in Salisbury, Maryland.

Dr. Bashir Hamidu earned her medical degree summa cum laude from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. She completed her internal medicine residency and advanced hepatology training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

Board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, she is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. She has presented nationally and published on topics including liver disease, endoscopy, and healthcare disparities. She consistently scored in the top percentile during both residency and fellowship.

Her clinical interests include liver transplantation, viral hepatitis, steatotic liver disease, endoscopy, and advancing health equity in gastrointestinal (GI) care. A dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Bashir Hamidu is involved in both local and global health initiatives, including international work to expand access to GI care and hepatitis B screening. She has served as a speaker at global events such as Rwanda Endoscopy Week.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys photography, hiking and exploring islands.
