
Salisbury, MD — TidalHealth is pleased to announce that Ovais Khalid, MD, has been appointed Medical Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services.
Dr. Khalid is a board-certified psychiatrist with more than 15 years of experience in mental health care. He completed his psychiatry residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 2013 and is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). He was named a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association in 2015 and earned certification from the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons in 2019.
Throughout his career, Dr. Khalid has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing mental health services. He received the Competency Award for excellence in professionalism and medical knowledge and the Psychiatry Scholar Award for outstanding academic and research contributions during his time at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.
He currently serves as Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services and Associate Program Director of the Psychiatry Residency Program at TidalHealth. In his new role as Medical Director of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, he will continue to lead growth, innovation, and strategic initiatives to enhance mental health services across the organization.
Dr. Khalid’s leadership focuses on fostering collaboration among departments to improve patient satisfaction, streamline care delivery, and elevate the quality of behavioral health services. He is dedicated to strengthening residency education, supporting professional development, and ensuring patient care remains central to all initiatives.
He brings extensive clinical expertise, particularly in managing chronic mental health conditions. His leadership extends beyond direct patient care, exemplified by previous roles as medical director at Eastern Shore Psychological Services and consultant psychiatrist at the Worcester County Health Department, where he helped expand collaborative mental health programs throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.
A dedicated member of several professional organizations, including the Maryland Psychiatric Society, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Dr. Khalid is committed to advancing the field of psychiatry. His leadership style is driven by a clear vision of growth, continuous quality improvement, and an unwavering focus on enhancing patient outcomes and access to care.
