Salisbury, MD — TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is pleased to announce that Ebony Nichols, RN, of 5 South has been selected as its DAISY Award recipient for June 2025.
Nichols was nominated by the family member of a recent patient for the compassion and exceptional care she provided:
“Ebony is a very professional, kind, caring nurse. She explains everything and asks if you need anything. She is willing to help in any way she can.
When my husband was going to surgery and was going to miss dinner, she said they could get him something when he got back to his room. He told her he wanted a cheeseburger, and she saw to it that he had a cheeseburger.
When she heard our grandson was graduating, she offered to help my husband get the ceremony on his phone so he wouldn’t miss it. Thanks to Ebony for being an outstanding nurse!”
Nichols was honored with the DAISY Award in a ceremony before her colleagues. She received certificates commending her for being an extraordinary nurse, and a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.
The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
