Maryland has a severe workforce shortage, with only 40 workers for every 100 open jobs. This is partly due to a lack of properly trained candidates, and trade workers are nearing retirement.
One proposed solution is the development of formal and nontraditional apprenticeships in trades, ranging from metal fabric manufacturing and plumbing to healthcare and hotel/restaurant management.
