The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce (SACC) and the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES) are promoting a Uniting Community Theme this year for our PAC-14 / YouTube TV Show, “Education is Everybody’s Business.” This year’s theme is “Let’s Improve Life & Living on the Shore.”
To begin our fifth year, the first episode features the timely topic, “VOTING is a Civic Responsibility: Your VOTE Does Matter!” In this timely, informative episode, host and content developer Dr. Ladd Colston discusses how important it is for our county and regional residents to get out and vote in this year’s General Elections. He cites the low voter turnout in 2022, when all four Lower Shore Counties averaged below or just above 50%.
This 30-minute episode features an interview with Ms. Dionne Church, Election Director for the Wicomico County Board of Elections, and an interview with Ms. JJ Skyler, the NEW President and CEO of Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore. Viewers will learn about employment opportunities with the Wicomico County Board of Elections, as well as how high school students can earn community service hours for graduation by working at the polls.
Ms. JJ Skyler is welcomed to the Eastern Shore and shares with viewers why she wanted to take on the job at Junior Achievement (JA) of the Eastern Shore. She shares with viewers how JA introduces students as young as sixth grade to civic responsibilities, such as Voting. Ms. Skyler tells viewers about JA BizTown and how voting is incorporated into the curriculum experience.
Lastly, viewers of this episode will learn how they can access the Maryland State Board of Elections Voter Services Website, where they can: (1) find their polling place, (2) look up their voter info. (3) register to vote, (4) request a ballot, and/or (5) update their voter info.
