Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF), is pleased to announce that Megan E. Evans of Hebron, Maryland, has been selected as this year’s recipient of their $1,000 college scholarship.
A graduate of Mardela High School, Evans is the daughter of Greg and Elise Evans. She has been accepted into Salisbury University’s Dual Degree Engineering Transfer Program – also known as the “3+2 Program”. Through this program, Evans will earn both a physics degree and an engineering degree by completing her first three years at Salisbury University. Following the fulfillment of their requirements, she will then transfer to the Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park to complete the last two years of her education by concentrating on Civil and Environmental Engineering. 
DBF’s scholarship, awarded annually since 2002, was established to financially assist individuals who have an interest in pursuing a career in engineering, architecture, and/or planning. Applicants are required to commit to attend an accredited college or university with an architecture or engineering (civil, environmental, structural, coastal, or traffic) degree program. Additionally, the applicant must be a graduating senior who resides within Wicomico County. Evan’s application was selected by a committee of DBF principals who based their decision upon the applicant’s academic record, SAT scores, community service history, and established future goals.

While attaining a weighted overall GPA of 4.52, Evans’s academic achievements have also included membership in Mu Alpha Theta and the National Honor Society, serving as the Student Government Association Executive Board President and as student advocate to the Wicomico Board of Education, and receipt of the athletic award Minds in Motion, a Presidential Education Award, and the Lamp of Knowledge Educational Award. Outside of school, Evans held employment as a lifeguard and food service worker all while all while volunteering with the Chesapeake Housing Mission, the Trinity Appalachian Service Program, and HALO’s Community Center, as well as serving as a mentor, performing with a worship band, and providing childcare services.
“I want to thank everyone who has helped me throughout high school and set me on the path I am on now,” Evans shared following the acceptance of her award. “I want to thank DBF for this incredible scholarship; it means so much to me that a firm such as yours believes in my future in engineering.”
