Fall Sports Competitions Begin March 5 for Wicomico County Public Schools; Rules for Family-Only Attendance Announced

WCPS

Wicomico County Public Schools is excited to finally be starting the Fall athletic season, which kicks off with competitions this Friday, March 5. As part of our continued efforts in keeping everyone safe during these times, Wicomico Schools and other Bayside Conference members have put in place certain guidelines and restrictions pertaining to attending athletic contests. Please take a moment to review these important restrictions.

The biggest changes from normal school years will be in the stands. Each athlete is permitted to have up to 4 family members in attendance at home games, with no charge to enter. Those family members will be on a list and must provide a school-issued pass and a photo ID at the gate or door to enter. Everyone attending must answer COVID-19 screening questions, then adhere to health and safety guidelines once inside by wearing a face mask or other facial covering and maintaining 6 feet of distance from anyone not from the same household.

No one else will be admitted to games, including WCPS staff, due to limitations on the number of spectators allowed. (The only exceptions will be for those few pre-approved staff members with responsibilities for game day operations). WCPS badges will not provide entry to games. Please note that only home teams are allowed to have fans in attendance; even pre-approved family members who are fans from another Wicomico County high school will not be permitted entry when theirs is the visiting team.

We wish we could open games to all of those wishing to attend in support of our student athletes. However, to be able to run our athletic programs, while keeping everyone safe, we must adhere to these restrictions on fans in the stands. We encourage everyone to continue to follow and support our student athletes.

Wicomico Schools will have information to share very soon on the availability of sporting events online, either livestreamed on Facebook or posted later to a YouTube channel.

Again, as part of our continued efforts in keeping everyone safe during these times, Wicomico Schools and other Bayside Conference members have put in place these guidelines and restrictions pertaining to attending athletic contests.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of our students and schools.
