As we approach the Jan. 1, 2027 start of contributions to Maryland’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program, we wanted to share a few important updates and resources for Maryland-based employers.
As of yesterday, Sept. 1, employer registration for FAMLI is officially live. Employers are encouraged to register and begin preparing for upcoming compliance requirements.
A Few Key Updates
- Employer registration: Employers must register directly with FAMLI; third-party agents (TPAs) cannot register on an employer’s behalf. Understand employer registration.
- TPAs: The Department of Labor has provided additional guidance on how TPAs can register and connect with employer accounts to manage FAMLI responsibilities for their clients. Manage FAMLI for clients.
- Preparing for 2027: New resources are available to help employers understand upcoming quarterly reporting and contribution requirements ahead of the Jan. 1 start of contributions. Prepare now to submit quarterly reports and make contributions.
