Delaware expansion builds on a century of personalized service and community banking

DELMAR, Del. — Farmers Bank of Willards has broken ground on a new branch in Delmar, continuing its investment in Eastern Shore communities more than a century after the locally owned bank was founded.

The new branch, located in Delmar Business Park, will expand the bank’s presence in Sussex County alongside its existing Millsboro location. Known for its close-knit community and strong local roots, Delmar is a natural fit for the bank’s continued growth on the Eastern Shore. Once completed, Delmar will become the bank’s eighth branch.

Founded in Willards, Md., in 1925, Farmers Bank of Willards has been part of the Eastern Shore for more than a century. While banking has changed over the years, the bank continues to invest in physical branches, making it easier for customers to access the personal service they have come to know and trust.

“Opening a branch in Delmar is about more than expanding our footprint. It’s about becoming part of another community and investing in its future,” said Matthew Davis, president and CEO of Farmers Bank of Willards. “We believe banking should be personal. We want to know our customers, understand their needs, and build relationships that last. That’s what community banking means to us, and we are excited to bring that same commitment to Delmar.”

Farmers Bank of Willards has partnered with Salisbury-based Gillis Gilkerson to lead a design-build construction process for the new facility. The organizations previously worked together on the bank’s West Ocean City branch. The new 3,150 square foot building, designed by Teen Verbares of Core Design Group, will blend traditional and modern architecture, balancing neoclassic columns and ornamental tile inlays with sleek glass storefronts and a standing seam metal roof.

The 1,428-square-foot drive-through canopy will feature three covered lanes — two teller lanes and one ATM lane — designed with Eastern Shore drivers in mind, including those behind the wheel of full-size pickup trucks. The oversized lanes will provide convenient, weather-protected access to banking services.

Construction is underway, with completion anticipated around Memorial Day 2027.
