First Shore Federal ~ Celebrating 70 years

On December 15, 2023, the City of Salisbury presented a Proclamation extending congratulations to First Shore for 70 years of providing financial solutions that create a stronger community for its customers. First Shore Federal Savings and Loan Association “First Shore” celebrates its 70th year anniversary. Founded in 1953 by a group of prominent local businessmen whose purpose was to provide a source of funds for home mortgages in the Salisbury area, while offering a good dividend and federal deposit insurance for local savings customers. The Association has seven local branches in Wicomico, Worcester and Sussex Counties, and was voted Best Mortgage Company on the Shore by Metropolitan readers in 2023. Notably the strongest banking institution on the Shore based on Capital ratio, and continues to earn a Five-Star rating; the highest awarded for financial stability from Bauer Financial; a leading independent bank and credit union research firm. For 28 consecutive years, the Office of the Controller of the Currency awarded First Shore its highest regulatory Rating, “Outstanding” for Community Reinvestment Activity. According to the examination, the Association’s community development activities have demonstrated excellent responsiveness to the community development needs of its assessment area; First Shore is one of the few financial institutions in the country to have the distinction. In addition, First Shore employees invest thousands of dollars annually to local nonprofit and charitable organizations and other groups by giving their time, talent, resources and volunteer service; Executive Team associates also serve in leadership capacity on local boards, committees, foundations and service organizations, demonstrating First Shore’s advertising slogan, “Community minded ~ Just Like You”. First Shore supports a wide-range of humanitarian, quality of life, affordable housing, financial literacy, and senior and youth programs in its assessment area, as well as support for local schools, Salisbury University, Wor Wic Community College and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. First Shore Federal is a leading corporate citizen recognized by multiple peer groups.
