Seaford, DE — TidalHealth Nanticoke is honored to announce that for a second consecutive year, it has received a prestigious 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in its recently released 2025 Hospital Quality Star Ratings.

TidalHealth Nanticoke is the only hospital in Delaware to earn this top rating in 2025, as it also was in 2024, highlighting its role as a leader in healthcare excellence within the state.

This distinguished recognition, the highest awarded by CMS, underscores the hospital’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care and achieving outstanding patient outcomes, and distinguishes TidalHealth Nanticoke for its performance compared to other United States hospitals.

Nationally, TidalHealth Nanticoke is one of only 291 hospitals out of approximately 4,600, representing the top 10.1% of hospitals across the United States, to receive the highest possible rating from CMS.

The 5-star rating reflects excellence across five critical quality measures: mortality, safety, readmissions, patient experience, and timely & effective care. Based on a hospital’s performance in all five, it is awarded a star rating to reflect that quality.

“Being the only Delaware hospital to reach this 5-star recognition in back-to-back years makes me incredibly proud of our TidalHealth Nanticoke team. It’s the individual clinicians working together to provide high-quality service to our patients that makes this possible. This is validation of the hard work our staff puts in every day. Being the only Delaware hospital honored in 2024 and 2025 in this 5-star category by CMS and our patients reinforces that TidalHealth Nanticoke is one of the safest and most cost-effective hospitals in America,” said Penny Short, President of TidalHealth Nanticoke. “This doesn’t happen without the tremendous dedication of every member of our healthcare team and our commitment to the people of Sussex County to always be our best.”

This significant achievement reflects TidalHealth Nanticoke’s excellence in various quality measures, including patient experience, safety of care, and readmission rates. The hospital’s commitment to continuous improvement and patient-centered care has been instrumental in achieving this recognition.

The Seaford healthcare team was also recently honored to be named the #2 hospital in the State of Delaware by Newsweek and Statista in its “Best-in-State Hospitals 2025 Report.”

“I am very proud of the work being done at TidalHealth Nanticoke in again achieving this extraordinary honor and consistently outpacing all other Delaware hospitals in these critical care areas as measured by CMS,” added Short.

Overall CMS ratings range from one to five stars with the majority of American hospitals achieving a three-star rating. TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury and Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin both received a three-star rating in the 2025 report.
