The Friends of Wicomico Public Libraries presented a check for $8,168.33 to Andrea Berstler, Wicomico Public Libraries Executive Director and James Otway, Esq., Board Chairperson on Monday, January 5, 2015 in the BookShelf book store at the Downtown Library.
The Friends of Wicomico Public Libraries is an advocacy group that provides vital support to the Library through fundraising, raising awareness of the Library as a public education provider and advocating for a modern, community focused library space. The funds raised by The Friends of Wicomico Public Libraries were used to set up the Friend’s bookstore, provide support for promoting the Library’s Summer Reading Program, underwriting a Holiday Story Time for children, holiday decorations for the Bookmobile and lunch for the Library staff at Staff Development Day.
“Considering that this Friends group began in 2012, their progress has been very surprising. Their contributions help the Library offset some of the lost funding that has hampered our operations since 2009.” states Executive Director Berstler. “They are a vital support group for the library and their work is crucial to our continued success.”
