Salisbury, MD — Melissa Geeslin of Goosehead Insurance in Salisbury has been named the 2023 Maryland Insurance Advocate of the Year, by Stephen D. Umberger, district director of the US Small Business Administration’s Baltimore District Office. Geeslin, along with thirteen additional award winners from Maryland, will be honored at the 37th Annual Maryland Small Business Week Awards Luncheon June 8 at Martin’s West in Woodlawn, Md.

Geeslin opened Goosehead Insurance in the fall of 2019 with a vision to create simplified insurance portfolio solutions for residential and commercial customers. Despite launching her business right before the pandemic, Geeslin quickly adapted to the new business environment and social distancing requirements. She didn’t miss a beat, quickly growing her firm from 250 to over 900 clients, administering over 1500 policies.

Geeslin is a board member and Ambassador Committee Chair of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of Operation We Care, supporting active and retired military and first responders. She contributes monetary donations and time to these and other organizations, including Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County.

Each year since 1963, the president has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of National Small Business Week. This year, the dates are May 1-5, with national events planned virtually and in select cities across the country.
