Following Lauren’s lead during American Heart Month.
February is American Heart Month, and there’s no better time to share the importance of lifesaving transplants and blood donations. In 2023, over 4,500 patients received heart transplants.1
Lauren Shields is one such recipient. When she was nine years old, she received a lifesaving heart transplant from a woman who was an organ donor. Her life was transformed, and since then, she’s become an advocate for organ and blood donations.
“I’ve received many blood donations, and I know how lifesaving they really are,” Shields said. “It only takes an hour to come donate and you really do save someone’s life.” At the age of 12, Lauren lobbied for a bill that was signed into law in her home state that bears her name, Lauren’s Law. The law makes answering the organ donor question on the DMV form mandatory when you register or renew your license.
This month, we’re taking a page from Lauren’s book and raising awareness about transplants. Thank you for giving blood and supporting patients who undergo these procedures. Your donations make a difference.

Be a designated donor. You can register to be an organ donor the next time you visit the DMV to get or renew your driver’s license. |
