Gillis Gilkerson, one of the most stable and trusted general contracting and construction management firms on Delmarva, announced it has been hired to build three new buildings at the Valley Proteins processing plant at 5420 Linkwood Road, Linkwood, Maryland.

The project includes a 20,000 square foot metal building with split face masonry to be used as a vehicle maintenance building, a 1,000 square foot precast concrete building for a truck wash facility and a 9,000 square foot conventional steel and masonry building that will be used for office space.  Special truck lifts in the maintenance building will be installed along with a fueling station and truck scale.

Gillis Gilkerson project manager, Matt Esham and superintendent, Wayne Porter report a construction start date in January, 2016 for the 12 month project.  Site work construction is currently underway through Bramble Construction.

“Gillis Gilkerson is fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of helping local companies grow,” said Dwight Miller, president, Gillis Gilkerson.  “The facilities we are building for Valley Proteins will support the expanding needs of the business by providing spaces that will cater to their efficiencies and sustainability in the market.”

“Linkwood is positioned to be the hub for Valley Proteins on Delmarva,” said Tom Himmler, project manager.  “We have a large fleet of trucks and trailers we need to maintain to keep the business up and running and are confident that the work Gillis Gilkerson has been hired to do will support our growing demands which will in turn help us continue to expand our footprint on the Eastern Shore.”

Valley Proteins provides recovery services and advanced rendering technologies.  The business is based on the collection and recycling of inedible animal by-products from the food industry by providing disposal service to restaurants, supermarkets, abattoirs and poultry processing facilities throughout the Mid-Atlantic, eastern and southwestern United States.  Valley Proteins plants recycle the by-products into high energy feed fat and protein-rich meal products to create animal feeds.
