The Maryland Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism recently selected United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore to receive a $20,454 grant from the Volunteer Generation Fund to support the GET CONNECTED Volunteer Center. The selection was made following a rigorous application process and funding supports the Volunteer Center through September 30, 2017.
United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore staff and supporters proudly accept a $20,454 check from Governor Larry Hogan and the Maryland Governor’s Office of Service and Volunteerism. The grant is awarded from the Volunteer Generation Fund to boost the impact of volunteers in addressing critical community needs.
The Volunteer Generation Fund (VGF) is a program authorized by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. The Corporation for National and Community Service awards these federal funds to boost the impact of volunteers in addressing critical community needs.
In Maryland, the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism funds volunteer connector organizations to increase their ability to recruit and retain volunteers in diverse opportunities as well as increase other organizations’ usage of effective volunteer management practices
As the official designated Volunteer Center for Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore, United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore connects community members and organizations with resources, local needs, special events and opportunities to volunteer via the free online GET CONNECTED tool.
United Way will use the VGF grant to strengthen volunteer capacities for all local nonprofits through training and support, increase local volunteerism through individual, team and corporate opportunities and expand public awareness of nonprofit opportunities, programs and impact. The grant will also fund a part-time Volunteer Center Intern to coordinate program activities.
