Salisbury, MD — On Friday, October 10, 2025, Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County (HFHWC) celebrated a joyous milestone: the home blessing of its newest build on Grace Street in Salisbury. The event welcomed community members, partners, and local dignitaries to honor the Lofland Family, who have purchased the new home through Habitat’s affordable homeownership program.
The ceremony featured remarks from Maryland State Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes and Salisbury City Councilmember Sharon Dashiell, both of whom spoke about the transformative impact of homeownership and the vital role community support plays in building stronger neighborhoods.
Kia Lofland, the future homeowner, shared her story with those in attendance. Kia previously rented a home with her 16-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 22 and 15. After dealing with unsafe conditions in her rental — including mold that endangered her asthmatic daughter — she realized it was time for a change. Encouraged by a current Habitat homeowner, Kia applied to the program and began her journey toward building a better future for her family through homeownership.
The home on Grace Street was made possible through generous community support, especially from Spicer Bros. Construction, who donated the roofing labor, and GAF, who contributed the roofing material through the GAF Habitat for Humanity Community Contractor Program. HFHWC extends sincere gratitude to all donors, volunteers and supporters who contributed to making this home a reality.
