Salisbury, MD — Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County received a $55,000 grant from Lowe’s to help renovate four homes in Wicomico County.
With the support of this grant, Wicomico Habitat will install a new HVAC system in a home with no heat. This grant will also support the installation of new windows, a new roof, and two Aging in Place bathroom modifications. Habitat’s Aging in Place program provides critical home repairs and modifications to help seniors age in their home safely and comfortably.
“Working with seniors and seeing the improvements to their everyday life is truly rewarding,” says Sheri Ewing, Family Services Manager. “We can only do this with the help of our donors and corporate sponsors such as Lowe’s.”
The funding from Lowe’s is part of a two-year, $6 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International to support home repair and preservation efforts in owner-occupied homes. Through this partnership, more than 75 local Habitat affiliates will complete more than 480 projects this year to address critical health and safety issues in homes across the U.S. Since 2003, Lowe’s and Habitat have worked together to help more than 18,000 people build or improve a place to call home.
About Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County
Habitat for Humanity works to make homeownership of decent, affordable homes a matter of conscience and action. Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County was founded in 1987; since then the affiliate has built and sold 74 homes locally, and completed over 100 critical home repairs. Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent homes with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat homes are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, low-interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments come back to the affiliate to help build more homes for more families.
