Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County was thrilled to co‑host the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s February Business After Hours on February 12, welcoming a lively crowd of more than 100 local business and community leaders. The casual, purpose‑driven mixer created space for partners to connect, learn more about Habitat’s mission, and spark new ideas for expanding safe, affordable homeownership in Wicomico County.
Executive Director Molly Hilligoss and Director of Development Christina Williams kicked off the evening by sharing updates on Habitat’s work and spotlighting their signature annual fundraiser, Chefs for Habitat. This high‑energy gala brings together more than 25 local chefs and community Celebrity Fundraisers for an unforgettable night of food, philanthropy, and impact. Held on March 7 at the Wicomico Civic Center, the event raises critical funds to build safe, affordable homes for hardworking families right here in Wicomico County.
Hilligoss emphasized the urgency of the moment, noting, “This week has been unprecedented — we’ve helped 116 families with rental assistance, supported 20 families with security deposits, and another 60 with utility assistance.” She highlighted major housing legislation moving through the Maryland General Assembly, as well as federal momentum after meeting with Senator Van Hollen, Congressman Andy Harris, and others in Washington. Housing, she said, is now “at the top of every agenda,” and she expressed deep gratitude for the community’s support as they continue pushing for more affordable housing that families — and the economy — urgently need.
Guests enjoyed Valentine’s inspired bites from The Dinner Express, adult beverages, networking, and raffle prizes provided by Habitat by Humanity that included a $50 ReStore gift card, a Maryland themed basket and 2 tickets for Chefs for Habitat. A gift card raffle benefiting the SACC Foundation Endowment (which supports scholarships for local students pursuing a degree in business or skilled trades) took place and a lucky winner received two $50 gift cards, one for Visa and one for The Candied Yam.
