
SALISBURY, MD — The City of Salisbury is pleased to announce the appointment and swearing in of Melissa D. Holland to the City Council.
Holland, a lifelong Salisbury resident, brings more than 20 years of administrative, governmental and community-based experience to the council. She has built a career rooted in service, integrity and organizational leadership.
She currently serves as executive assistant to the president at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, where she manages scheduling, event planning, communications, research coordination and administrative operations.
Holland’s previous roles include positions with the Wicomico County Board of Education, the State of Maryland at Holly Center and the Wicomico County Council, where she supported both executive and legislative functions. Her experience includes budget management, project coordination, recordkeeping, audit support and liaison work with local and state officials.
Holland holds a bachelor’s degree in legal studies from Post University and an associate degree in general studies from Wor-Wic Community College. In addition to her professional background, Holland has served in volunteer leadership roles, including PTA president at East Salisbury Elementary School.
“Her well-rounded experience and dedication to public service will be an asset to the residents of District Two and the entire City of Salisbury,” said City Council President, Angela Blake.
The City Council extends its gratitude to all candidates who applied. Several highly qualified applicants came forward, and the council appreciates their willingness to serve. Only one individual could be selected at this time. The council thanks each applicant for their participation and wishes them well in their continued civic engagement.
Mayor Randy Taylor added, “Now that we have a complete Council hopefully a renewed sense of cooperation and understanding of the need for progress will follow. While I was not a part of the selection process, I am looking forward to getting on with the work of the City.”
Following last night’s swearing in, Council reorganized. Angela Blake, formerly Council Vice President was chosen for the role of president by a vote of 3-2. Councilwoman April Jackson was unanimously chosen by Council to be Vice President.
