Salisbury, MD – This week The City of Salisbury Fire Department is announcing their 2022 EMT and Paramedic of the year awards. Andrew Quillen was named the 2022 Paramedic of the Year while Corray Heath was named the 2022 EMT of the Year.
EMS stands for Emergency Medical Services, which EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and Paramedic positions fall under. The awards are courtesy of the Salisbury Paramedic Foundation, which is an up-and-coming non-profit organization that strives to support Salisbury’s paramedics and EMTs.
Last year alone the department responded to nearly 12,000 EMS calls. These awards are one way that the fire department and The City of Salisbury can recognize the hard work and dedication of our first responders and clinicians. Every shift nominated one EMT and one Paramedic for consideration, and the winners were decided by EMS Sergeants based on each nominee’s dedication to the Core Values of the department which include teamwork, honesty, integrity, creativity, knowledge, respect, commitment to excellence, and a balanced life.
“The department was fortunate to have great nominees from each shift for these awards, however, Andrew and Corray set themselves apart. They truly embody the core values of the Salisbury Fire Department, are tremendous patient advocates, and are the role models for field clinicians in Salisbury” said Christopher Truitt, Assistant Chief of EMS.
While only one candidate was selected for each award, all of the nominees deserve recognition as well. Corey Allensworth, Benjamin Koons, and Kristen Higgins were nominated for EMT of the Year alongside Heath. Miranda Webster, Christopher Boston, and Joshua Joyner were nominated for Paramedic of the Year alongside Quillen.
“Acknowledging and recognizing the dedication to the safety of our city by all of our EMTs and Paramedics should be a consistent priority, and we are so pleased that this award can bring much needed attention to the incredible hard work of the nominees, winners, and department as a whole” said Mayor John “Jack” R. Heath. “We would like to say congratulations again to the winners, and thank you to every EMS worker that gets up everyday to make our city safer and healthier.”
