Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County (HFHWC) has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Housing Assistance Council through its 2026 Affordable Housing for Rural Veterans (AHRV) Initiative, made possible through generous support from The Home Depot Foundation. The funding will provide critical repairs to three low-income veteran homes in Wicomico and Somerset Counties, helping local veterans remain safely and independently housed.
The AHRV Initiative supports nonprofit organizations working to preserve and improve housing for veterans in rural communities across the country. Through this grant, HFHWC will address critical home repair needs, enabling veteran homeowners to safely age in place and eliminate health and safety hazards associated with deteriorating housing conditions.
“Our goal is to ensure that veterans in our community can remain safely housed,” said Christina Williams, Director of Development at Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Housing Assistance Council and The Home Depot Foundation to provide critical home repairs for veterans in Wicomico and Somerset Counties. This support will allow us to address critical repair needs and help veterans remain safely and comfortably in their homes”.
