InSite BUILD, a Maryland-based general contracting firm specializing in complex construction projects, has completed the $60.15 million Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI) Infrastructure Modernization Project in Westover, Maryland, a multi-year effort that served as the company’s flagship project and helped launch its rapid growth across the Mid-Atlantic.
The project included replacing the facility’s perimeter security fencing and security electronics, installing nearly 4 miles of high-temperature hot water piping infrastructure, and upgrading mechanical systems across 10 mechanical rooms while maintaining uninterrupted operations within one of Maryland’s active correctional facilities.
Executing the project required complex phasing, strict security coordination, and daily collaboration with facility personnel, the Maryland Department of General Services, escort teams, trade partners, and project stakeholders to keep critical systems operational throughout construction.
The successful completion of the project coincides with a year of national recognition for both the company and its founder. Over the past year, Founder and CEO Melissa Drew was named to the Inc. Female Founders 500, recognized as a winner for EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Mid-Atlantic, and selected as one of the 50 Women to Know in Washington, D.C. InSite BUILD was also ranked No. 1 on the Inc. Regionals Mid-Atlantic list of fastest-growing private companies.
“The completion of this project is a milestone for InSite BUILD, but it’s also the realization of the vision I had when I founded the company,” said Melissa Drew, Founder and CEO of InSite BUILD. “It proved that a young company with the right people, strong partnerships, and a commitment to doing the right thing can successfully deliver one of the region’s most complex public construction projects. I\’m incredibly proud of our team, grateful for the trust our partners placed in us, and couldn’t be more excited about where this momentum takes us next.”
The ECI project helped establish InSite BUILD as a trusted partner for complex, high-stakes construction projects and laid the foundation for the firm’s growth. With the project now complete, the company is leveraging the experience and partnerships developed through the effort to pursue increasingly complex opportunities across the Mid-Atlantic in both the public and private sectors.
