James M. Bennett High School Traffic Signal Replaced; Damaged Parkside High School Traffic Signal Replacement Forthcoming

James Bennett Intersection

Salisbury, MD–As part of the City of Salisbury’s Department of Infrastructure & Development’s ongoing effort to keep the public informed of improvements within the City of Salisbury, please be advised of ongoing signal upgrades to the Beaglin Park Drive and East College Avenue traffic signals.

The City of Salisbury was notified of a malfunctioning traffic signal in front of James M. Bennett High School on East College Avenue in April 2022. While parts were ordered immediately, global supply chain issues delayed their arrival until this week. In the meantime, the signal has operated on a timer which has been equally frustrating for drivers. Upgrades including a new camera, controller, and programming system for the signal were installed on Monday, September 26, solving issues drivers had with delayed and unnecessary light changes.

During an electrical storm in recent weeks, the traffic signal on Beaglin Park Drive in front of Parkside High School was struck by lightning and catastrophically damaged. Drivers will continue to see slightly longer wait times at this signal until new cameras, panel, and controller are installed. These parts are significantly delayed in shipment due to supply chain issues triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, shifts in demand, and global labor shortages.

“We are pleased to finally have the parts to complete this upgrade and alleviate the headache of many Salisbury drivers,” said Mayor Jacob Day. “Supply chain issues have affected every industry across the globe, and traffic signals are not exempt. We are working as best we can through these circumstances, and hope to resolve the signal issue in front of Parkside High School as soon as possible,” he added.

We apologize for these delays, and we thank you for your continued patience.

Thank you to our teams from Field Operations and the Department of Infrastructure and Development for their work on upgrading and maintaining the equipment.
