Wicomico County, MD — Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County (HFHWC) has received a $10,000 grant from Johns Hopkins Health Plans to support its Critical Home Repair and Aging in Place program, helping low-income seniors remain safe, healthy, and independent in their own homes.

“Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County understands that a senior’s ability to age safely at home often depends on simple but critical home modifications,” said Lori Rund, VP of Medicare Advantage for Johns Hopkins Health Plans. “By supporting their Aging in Place program, we’re investing in practical solutions that help prevent injuries and hospitalizations while allowing older adults to maintain their independence and quality of life.”

HFHWC’s Aging in Place program addresses the direct health impacts of unsafe housing by reducing household hazards and improving accessibility for older adults. Through critical repairs and home modifications, the program helps lower the risk of falls, injuries, hospitalizations, and premature institutionalization—allowing seniors to age with dignity in the homes they love.

“As more seniors on the Eastern Shore seek to age safely at home, collaborations like this one with Johns Hopkins Health Plans are essential,” said Molly Hilligoss, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County. “This grant helps us address housing-related health risks and ensures more older adults can remain independent and secure in their own homes.”
