Salisbury’s Summer Youth Employment program returns this year for its 5th summer session. Offering 10 paid positions to applicants between the ages of 16-18, the City of Salisbury partners with Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore, Wicomico County Public Schools, and the Greater Salisbury Committee to provide a 10-week employment opportunity for local youth.
Program members participate in job-readiness training such as structured learning and mentoring, designed to give teens the skills and knowledge they need to succeed and thrive post-graduation.
During the experience volunteers from the Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore will train participants through their JA Fellows program. The Fellows program provides guidance for participants, such as assistance with their resumes and soft skill development which includes leadership, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.
“The Summer Youth Employment Program encourages a healthy transition to adulthood and provides participants with the opportunity to gain professional skillsets and valuable work experience,” shared Kevin Lindsay, Neighborhood Relations Manager for the City of Salisbury.
The program begins on June 15th and runs until August 21st. To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 18, and enrolled in a high school within City limits at the time of application. Applicants who will turn 19 over the summer will be allowed to participate in the program. Program participation is limited to students who are currently enrolled in the FARM program (Free And Reduced Meals). The deadline to apply for this program is April 15th.
