Salisbury, MD— Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore (JAES) hosted their 34th Annual Golf Tournament on August 5, 2020 at the Green Hill Country Club in Quantico, MD. The tournament was presented by BBSI – Salisbury and sponsored by many other local businesses on the Eastern Shore.

JAES was looking to host their annual tournament back in July. The organization ultimately had to cancel the tournament due to inclement weather. “We originally didn’t know if we would be able to host the tournament due to the pandemic,” said JAES Marketing and Events Coordinator, Ivory Bandoh. “When we received confirmation to move forward with the planning, the weather had other plans,” she said jokingly.

Overall, the Golf Tournament was a huge success. “With the help of over 42 donors and our event sponsors, we were able to raise over $28,000 dollars,” said Lisa Thornton, JAES Development Director. “Our community continues to amaze us with their drive and willingness to ensure students on the shore are getting the real-world education that is needed to ensure success for their futures.”

With the money raised at the tournament, 572 students on the Eastern Shore will be able to receive JA’s real-life, relevant, hands-on programming for free. “We are currently serving 22% of the student population here on the shore,” JAES President, Jayme Hayes, said. “While we are super excited about our progress, 78% of students on the shore are still without JA’s programming. Our programs teach life-skills like budgeting, career exploration, home ownership, and more. These skills should be accessible to all students, and we are on a mission to make that happen.”

JAES is busy working to take their programming virtual to assist the schools and parents in virtual learning this school year.
